The Aerospace Corporation
From 1981 until March 2016 I was a research professor at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). During that time I served as Director of the Center for Biophysical Sciences and Engineering and Director of the Center for Structural Biology at UAB. I also served as a Payload Specialist Astronaut and flew on the Space Shuttle Columbia (mission STS-50) in 1992 followed by serving as Chief Scientist for the International Space Station in 1994-95. I joined the Aerospace Corporation in April 2016 and am currently working on physiological and human factors issues associated with long-duration spaceflight. I am also involved with many different STEM activities for elementary, high school and college students and other educational outreach activities for the general public. Show less
